About Paper Alibi

Reconstruct fictional timetables, test witness statements and correct misleading clocks across 24 fixed deduction cases.

Choose English, Español or Italiano, then open a case from the library. Timetable cases ask you to assign a room and appointment time to each person. Other collections focus on false witness statements or misleading clocks.

Read the case rules as well as the clues. Fill in your reconstruction and choose Check my answer. A successful deduction reveals its reasoning. Progressive hints and a solution reveal are available if you get stuck.

About the game

The creator discloses generative AI assistance for code, text and graphics. These are fixed fictional puzzles, not live AI-generated investigations. The publisher calls it a pilot edition and says independent human playtesting of the full collection is still pending.

How to play

The 24 browser cases are free and require no account or purchase. There is no timer. Progress stays in the current browser when storage is available. The official itch.io page also links to this standalone site, which was used for the completed review case. Physical-phone play and offline use were not tested.

Separate an unreliable statement from responsibility

Start with constraints that the case explicitly declares reliable: which times exist, whether every room is used once, and whether people may change rooms. Record those before interpreting a witness. In the false-witness collection, a false account alone is not proof that its speaker performed the action.

We completed The Empty Envelope by assigning all four visits and checking the timetable. The game accepted the reconstruction and explained how the access record identified the responsible visitor. That verifies one case and its feedback loop; it does not certify every puzzle in the collection.
